Drew's Moral Dilemma

We are driving in the car and Drew says to me, "Mom? I'm trying to decide...if Anthony and Samantha were both hanging off the side of a cliff and I could only save one of them, who would I choose?"

I stare at him blankly. "I'm sorta hoping you're leaning towards your flesh and blood instead of the kid you met less than a year ago."

"Still," he defends. "It's a tough choice!"

He remains conflicted, which is why I'm steering Samantha away from ALL cliffs.

At least he's not figuring out ways to PUSH her over the cliff...

Oh siblings! My brothers probably would have had a hard time with that decision when we were young too. Heck, they still might! :)

Maybe he is thinking of having the whole bathroom to himself?!

My son used to test me like that. "What would you do if. . ." and then set up some absurd scenario usually involving life and death. Wait, what do I mean used to - he still does! Only now it's “What would you do if I pierced this, or tattooed that?” Just as absurd, but more of a possibility.

The fun has just begun!

I would ask my daughter who she would save between me or my wife except I already know that should the situation arise I'm a dead man. My wifes choice? I'm still a dead man.

Funny how they want to take a trip to the mountains soon.

Rocslinger worries far too much. We would never toss him off the cliff....just maybe set up the scenario.

Even better - when my sister and I were in Jr. High, as it was called in the old days, we visited my aunt's cabin in MN and went out on a row boat together. She could swim, I could not. Still can't. I asked her if we fell in, would she save me and she said, "No, because you would just drown me." I asked, "What if I'm careful not to?" "Still no." Ahhhh, sisterly love.

Just tell him when I was young and making tough decisions like that, rock, paper, sissors usually worked best for me.
