Where the refills are only $1.75

You know you live in the west when one of the state's largest revenue generators is called the "National Western Stock Show". We go every year because Cory gets free tickets from work. Because under no other circumstances would I go to tour cattle trailers, pet goats, or get a hat signed by the owner of a used car dealership. But for free? Hey kids, check out the nards on THAT thing!

Except this is the great lie of the free stock show tickets. It costs $6 for a hot dog that you wouldn't even serve in a homeless shelter and $8 for your kid to layer colored dirt into a glass bottle. BUT, we did get to stand a couple feet away from Miss Rodeo USA on her Clydesdale and it IS one of the last remaining places where one can wear Wranglers without getting beat up.

If you wanna call that a bright side.

I just wanted to let you know that checking for your blog updates during lunch is one of the highlights of my work day.

Also, I feel better knowing that I'm not the only who laughs at animal anatomy at these types of events...

AWESOME, I'm pretty sure my friend and her husband were there.

They drove from ID and were in Denver this weekend... for a cow show- probably the same right??

Can you believe it was a birthday present for Tim one year that I took him there! Once was fun, but definately plenty.

We try to go about every-other year. I figure the kids might as well get the culture of the West.
Can you believe we actually pay for the experience??

Back in the 80's, when I worked at a brokerage firm, I told my New York contacts I was going (because of free tickets and my only trip there). They asked what it was and I asked what they *thought* it was. The answer? A place where they show stocks and bonds available for investment. My answer? No, it's the only time horses and cows really are in downtown Denver (a way of life they all believed we lived, including wearing Western wear to work and riding horses around). Hilarious. And sort of made me feel like a hick...

OH, I'm SO GLAD WE MOVED!! Richard made us go to that every year. We all packed into the Metro because he was always able "squeeze in" some where to get free parking. It's a good "birds and bees" discussion, anyway.
