A word of caution

If your oven has been unplugged and in your dining room for five days and was used in the interim as a prop to play restaurant, hold your Sonic trash, and provide a nice little niche for dirty socks to get lodged, I highly recommend that you conduct a thorough exam of said oven after returning it to its rightful spot in the kitchen. Otherwise, you might go to use it for the first time and start to smell something funny. When the smell becomes so strong you can no longer ignore it, you may open up the oven door and discover that you have been preheating the top of a shoe box. (Why? Why??) This is not only dangerous, but it can make your pizza smell funny.

Good advice. I'm gonna have to add cleaning your oven once in a while. I've smoked up my kitchen more than once in the past month because a piece or crust or maybe cheesecake filling was burning on the bottom uncontrollably.

That's nothing compared to the time I found a DEAD MOUSE stinking up my oven. Before you think I'm an even worse housekeeper than I actually am, let me point out that it wasn't technically my oven, as I was a missionary in a third-world country at the time.

Sounds like you have had a rough couple of weeks!

I am just impressed that you have continued to blog through this upheaval!

And by the way, there is nothing worse than a dead mouse in your car's air conditioner.

I think I'm pretty clear how to retrieve a dead mouse from an oven. A car's air conditioner on the other hand...I wonder if a miter saw would help.

Randy and I are debating whether to tell you the part about how when you turned on the air conditioning it made a tha-thumping sound. I am proud (or embarassed?) to claim that I am the one who deduced the noise and the smell was dead mouse. We took it to our canyon car guy, who was not surprised: $75 later, no mouse.

I had a friend in high school whose family used to store extra pans, cardboard boxes, etc. in the oven. It was all well and good until I got the idea to make cookies. Hmmm...

At least ovens contain fire...

Worse yet was the time Vern's mom put a can of spray paint in a warm oven so it would be a temperature she could use (right away)...but with 7 kids forgot about it until later when she turned the oven on....did you know you CAN buy replacement glass for oven doors? Fortunately, no one was in the line of fire when the can whooshed kaboom through the glass! Humbling! MOM
