Now I Don't Know What To Pray For

Exactly one year ago today I blogged about a special event in my life.  Remember what that was?  I'll give you a hint.  It wasn't that time I burned my forehead, or the time I searched "hemorrhoids" on twitter, or even the one where I gave bacon to the Jews.  No, this was the one where I discovered that my purpose here on this earth was more than just watching Brian Regan on YouTube or practicing my surprised face for the day People magazine cites the demise of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' relationship.

Rather, my purpose was to tell the world about waffles.  Liege waffles from Bruges in Salt Lake City, Utah to be exact.  Because you guys are incredibly intelligent and tons of you heeded my advice to make the pilgrimage to partake of the goodness this place had to offer, lives have been changed and the world is happier for it.  One of my blogging buddies, JustRandi, visited there several months ago and when she mentioned having heard about his place from a blog he said, "Oh!  Was it Vern?  Man, I owe that girl a free waffle.  She has sent me a lot of business!"  So, let it be known that when I die and go to meet my Maker and he asks, "What did you do to make the world a better place?" I can say, "I helped make obesity more fun."  I think He will appreciate my honesty.

There's a purpose to my story.  Because you see, as much as I love Bruges it is in Utah, and I live in Colorado.  And while it would be nice to hop on a plane every time I had a hankering for some creme fraiche and sugar pearls coated in yeast based affection, that's not really possible.  But.  A few weeks ago facebook alerted me about a new establishment in town. My town.  Specifically, a waffle place.  A Belgian waffle place.  IN MY TOWN.  (Do you hear what I'm telling you?!  The PRINCE is marrying THE SEA WITCH. IN! DISGUISE!)

Seriously.

This was better than a burning bush reminding me of who is really in charge.

I emailed Randi, we set a date, and last Friday we went to check it out.

Here's Randi displaying her sampler, complete with marshmallow cream cheese and other healthy dairy products packed with protein:

See that glow behind her head?  That's not overexposure, that's an angel who was banging on the window going, "Hey, I was there when Jesus was born and when BYU won the National Championship, I am NOT about to miss THIS!"  This is me:

I am pictured here with peanut butter, nutella, and lemon curd.  Or as I like to call them, Satan's Powerful Tools.

After we were done eating Randi showed me how to calculate our meal into the calorie counter on her Smart Phone.

Big mistake.

Oh yum! I love waffles, although there are none to be found anywhere close by. So, my husband has to make them for me on the weekends. We found a recipe for chocolate waffles that are just pure bliss. Since they have bananas on them (fruit right?) Whipped cream (dairy!) they just have to be healthy too!! I have not tried any with lemon though, I just might have to give that one a try as soon as I can talk him into another batch!! Oh yea, we love nutella on almost anything!

Congratulations on finding the nemesis to any "healthy eating plan" (what I formerly called diet!!) If they are anything like the ones in Salt Lake, they will be really hard to resist. P.S. Thanks for doing your part to keep Bruges in business!! The world is definitely a better place!

When you posted about that place a year ago I bookmarked the site and promised myself I would go. Now I'm moving to NM in a month and probably won't have time. Thanks for the reminder of my crappy crappy move.

Ha! And, clearly, I agree since I not only mentioned Bruges on my blog around Christmas (I did note your excitement at the mention...), I went back and blogged MORE FULLY about it last week. Oh, how I've been converted.

Calories...tsk.

So at Christmas we have a family lunch and I wanted to go to Bruges but didn't think we could get 12 people in and sitting. Now I don't care so much because I live in Denver and can go to this new place you found! Oh yeah... and I just read that my niece is moving to NM from your comments on this post. Who knew?

I LOVE Bruges waffles. I have a frequent diner punch card there- and I live in Arizona. Their fries are killer too.

I went to Bruges solely on your recommendation. Everything you said was true, so true!

I realize I already commented, (which is weird anyway because I'm more of a lurker- but I am passionate about those waffles) anyway, not 5 minutes after I finished reading both your posts on the subject matter, I got a couple of pictures texted to me from my husband, who happens to be in Belgium for work. Anyway he sent me not one, but two pictures of the waffle he is eating right now. Creme fresh, chocolate and strawberries, and those hated words- "wish you were here!" How could he know that at that very moment, thanks to you, I was craving that in a big way? with no way of satisfying that craving?!?!?

sorry, I just have to point out that I meant to say "creme fraiche" not creme "fresh".

Wha...where...all I need - ALL I NEED IN THIS LIFE to be happy is to go out for waffles. With you. Is that so much to ask?

Went to Bruges last week. Last Saturday to be exact. He has a new product, imported from Belgium. As much as I love Nutella, it can't hold a candle to this new stuff. I can't pronounce it but it sure eats good. What's the flavor, you ask? Think those amazing Biscoff cookies, only even better, all ground up and creamy. You're close. Add a little creme fraiche, some fresh strawberries, and you've just inhaled your calorie intake for the week.

Hmmm. Now that I'm actually within driving distance from SLC, maybe I'll have to put this on the bucket list.

I've had a little too much "yeast based affection" going on around my middle section for years--I just had no idea what to call it till now.

The angel....
the bacon to the Jews....
too many funnies too little time to comment....you outdid yourself on this post..loved it...
