When I was a teenager my mom woke up every morning to whip up a hot breakfast before we left. I KNOW! I had no idea how good I had it at the time. A shame, really. You would think she set a good example for me, but instead I usually just feel guilty that I'm not as cool as she was. Don't get me wrong, I woke up the FIRST day and made a hot breakfast but I think we all know how long THAT'S going to last. I'm sure I will have more to say on the subject in the future, but in the meantime, I guess it's not ALL bad....
Plus, an extra bonus is when the light shines in from that direction in the morning you get a killer view of my filthy sliding glass door. Funny how when I saw it I broke out my camera and not the Windex. Well, maybe it's not funny to YOU. I guess you had to be there.

The camera would have been my choice too.
And my Dad always cooked a hot breakfast for us before seminary too. Now my son gets cereal almost every morning before elementary school.
Josh isn't a breakfast guy. Every morning I ask: toast? eggs? cereal? And he refuses. (Note that none of the options are bacon or pancakes or waffles.) Another reason I adore my firstborn.
Lucas will eat breakfast, but he doesn't start school until 8:40, so making breakfast for him is no sacrifice.
I usually drag myself out of bed 15 minutes before leaving time (aka; 5:45) make them lunches and make them an egg on toast. I tell ya, it's big sacrifice. But I often find my 15 year old's egg still on the counter after they've gone. When I ask about it she says, "Oh I wasn't hungry" What? Does she know the sacrifice I'm making for her? Apparently Not! Of course on the days I'm late, or too tired, or making a stand and don't make an egg... she wonders where it is and how she is going to make it until lunch without it.
There that's my whole post on early morning seminary... except for the sunrise photos, of which I have in abundance. Good luck with all that early morning stuff.
You just need to live in mormonville and have seminary part of school as an elective. I can't wait to say to my kids when they complain about seminary "When I was your age I had to get up at 5 a.m. to go to seminary" They should be glad that I lived in So. Cal so I can't add that I did it walking up hill in the snow for 2 miles. :)
Dave is definitely going to be taking the seminary shift. No STINKIN' way I'm gonna be up at that hour. (Unless I'm working, in which case, I'd be getting paid to wake up so early. Then, MAYBE.)
Breakfast is overrated.
My son's taking seminary early morning again this year. And he could take it during the school day, but he'd rather do it early. What?
I just feel good if I can see Gem before she goes. I had all these aspirations too, but that didn't even happen once, so good job!! BTW~loved the summer post too!
Love the sunrise photos!! In all the pictures I have posted on my blog, there are no sunrise photos because I NEVER EVER wake up at that hour and applaud you for doing it.
And so now you have the real reason we moved to Utah - release time seminary. Just sayin'.
Given the fact I never went to seminary and Greg being kicked out of the program, neither of us feel very strongly about it. We do however live in the wrong place to be less than mediocre. During sacrament meeting at the beginning of the summer they had all of the kids who had 100% attendance come up....guess how many...? 10. TEN kids from our ward did not miss A DAY. I'm already accepting the fact our kids will be slackers. I do however have a testimony of sleep.
I actually DO remember thinking on occasion as we drove down Via Rancho Parkway...."It's almost worth it to see this beautiful sunrise"...I might ALSO add, we had early morning seminary for 23 years! 7 kids plus one sister plus one foster child...TWENTY THREE YEARS!!!!! Oh wait, and we TAUGHT seminary for about 7??? No wonder I feel tired...I think I will go to bed now and get up when I feel like it...Kristy's MOM
